ABOUT JENN: At lunch the other day, I said to my friends, "I wish there was a good Eugene food blog." It's crazy to me that we live in a town this size, with this amount of places to eat, and there's no consistently referenced food blog. There's the Weekly, which has a food issue, but the thumbnail sketches there are rarely satisfying. There's Yelp, but crowd-sourced restaurant reviews can't replace a consistent point of view.
There's no shortage of opinion about food in Eugene, but there is a shortage of new opinions. Want a good dessert? Everyone says, "Sweet Life." Want a good breakfast? "Studio One." While I think the old stand-bys deserve their reputations, I hate to see them advertised as the be-all, end-all in Eugene food instead of as the pinnacles. There's a lot of decent food in the in-between land: mid-priced eats that satisfy specific cravings; new restaurants worth a first and second try; and diners galore.
I like to eat out and I like to write. Right now, I'm doing both in Eugene. This blog will combine those interests with my views (and those of some guest and co-bloggers, as I convince them) of places that are worth eating around town.
I'm not a foodie. I'm not an atmosphere snob. I don't discriminate against chain restaurants. What I want is good food at decent prices, and I know there's a lot of it in Eugene.
Have a tip? I'm always looking for good places to try. E-mail me at jenn AT kepkanation DOT com.
ABOUT KRISTEN: I was one of the friends present for the "Why is there no good food blog in Eugene?" discussion, and I agreed to contribute here from time to time. I haven't been able to as often as I would like: I'm a starving grad student of the law school variety. I pitch in from time to time, and I'm a huge fan of the places in town where two can eat for under 20.00. This, I feel, is my best contribution here. :)
